Blogs and Blog Readers
Before this assignment, I had never heard about feed readers. I did not understand what they are used for or how to use one. After reading the article The 10 Best Free RSS Reader Apps, now I know the importance of feed readers and making sure you select the best one for your needs. What is a feed reader, and what do they do? Feed readers simplify the process of seeing content from multiple sites. They allow you to follow specific writers, publications, and channels. The tools and how to navigate its contents will depend on the feed reader you select.
My Feed Reader Preference: Feedly
Feedly was the best choice for me because of how easy it is to navigate. When I went to their website, it gave me the option of using my Gmail account instead of having to open a new account. I was able to search by keyword and access the blogs. Feedly offers a free plan that allows you to follow up to 100 sources. It provides mobile apps for Android and iOS devices. Feedly allows you to share feeds, boards, notes, and highlights, and collaborate with other members. It also gives you the option of paying for a subscription to have access to unlimited sources.

I also chose Feedly as my blog reader! Just like you, I didn't fully understand the purpose of these feed readers at first. Now I completely understand that they are definitely a great tool! I will soon start my first year as a librarian, and having organized blogs in my feeder will help me find useful information and ideas rather quickly.
ReplyDeleteI was familiar with RSS feeds, but the market has opened up to many blog readers since I last used the RSS link that sent everything to my Yahoo email. I follow the School Library Journal, but I am going to check out Mr. Library Dude. Thanks for the suggestions.
